Heat exhaustion and heat stroke happen when the body cannot adapt to outside temperatures. Extended exposure to heat can raise body temperature and eventually lead to fever, nausea, low blood pressure and in some cases can even cause the person to lose consciousness. However, there are some easy ways to prevent heat stroke…
Cool Water
Drink plenty of cool water to stay hydrated and cool down your body temperature. You can also apply cold compresses or take a cool shower twice a day to help reduce your body heat.
Drink Electrolyte-rich Drinks
Replenish electrolytes lost through sweat by drinking electrolyte-rich beverages like coconut water, electral water or any energy drink. This helps restore the balance of minerals in your body.
Rest in a Cool Place
Find a cool and shaded area to rest at, preferably with AC or fan. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight and heat to prevent further overheating.
Wear Loose Clothing
Wear loose, lightweight and breathable clothing to allow air circulation. Avoid wearing tight, heavy clothing or dark coloured clothes that can trap and attract heat.
Herbal Teas
Drink herbal teas like peppermint or chamomile, which have cooling properties and can help soothe heat-related discomfort. Avoid tea, caffeine, soda and alcohol as much as possible, as they can cause dehydration.
