How NHA's 100 Microsites Project Is Changing Life For Indian Citizens

In 2021, India launched the under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme with a simple goal to create a unified digital platform that brings patients, healthcare providers like doctors, hospitals and labs as well as key stakeholders like insurance companies and the government together. The reason to launch the initiative was to reduce costs, improve transparency, accessibility and make the universal healthcare dream come true.

In fact, over the last three years, the implementation of ABDM has seen remarkable progress with more than 46 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts created, 3.2 Lakh health facilities registered and over 4.5 Lakh health professionals registered under the initiative. Much of this growth is attributed to various Central and State Government initiatives like PM-JAY (Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana), CoWin and the Fast-Track OPD project in government hospitals.

The National Health Authority (NHA) has taken ABDM a step further with the 100 Microsites Project that focuses on private healthcare providers like clinics, labs & pharmacies in various cities. Its mission is to raise awareness about ABDM, show how it benefits patients and healthcare providers and encourage these facilities to use ABDM-compliant software. Wondering why is this important? It’s to make healthcare easily accessible to everyone. Patients usually seek healthcare services close to where they stay. Just imagine, if all local healthcare facilities join ABDM, wouldn’t people be able to easily avail its benefits? It will make lives a lot easier for patients and their family. As far as the ‘Fast-track OPD scheme’ is concerned, it’s already known to people in various cities and is being used at hundreds of government hospitals daily across India. DRiefcase is one such app that is widely used at government hospitals to help reduce long waits in OPD queues. There are facilities that look at the pilot project as a task but from a patient’s perspective, what truly matters is ensuring that a majority of the healthcare facilities a patient requires are part of the ABDM network. That’s where the Microsite Project comes in. Around 100+ microsites are already active in states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat and there are many more in the pipeline.

In conclusion, ABDM is India’s commitment to making healthcare available to every citizen. The Microsite Project is a crucial step towards universal healthcare. It’s not just about the number of healthcare providers but it’s also about having the right healthcare providers where they’re needed the most. This project is undoubtedly changing the way healthcare works in India.
